Q: Michael, you have been very active in several of LKT's past timed film challenges. Why do you like doing those so much?
A: To me, it’s a lot of fun and a great opportunity to bond with fellow brothers. In order to create a film, we all have to trust and rely on one another. As a result, I always come out of these challenges feeling closer to those in my group.
Q: This semester you have been coming to our weekly LKT meetings with a box. Could you tell us what the purpose of that is, and why you have decided to bring it each week?
A: The purpose of the writing box is to encourage fellow brothers to reach out to me if they need someone to proofread or look over something they wrote, whether in the form of a poem, short story, or script. It’s also an opportunity for me to read more in general, as I believe that reading is a key component to becoming a better writer. As for why I bring the box each week, I simply want to contribute more to LKT. LKT has done so much for me and I want uphold my side of the bargain by being someone who can offer counsel to those who seek it.
Q: What goals do you have for your own writing in the future?
A: As a career, I hope to become an author/and or screenwriter one day. Everything I write I imagine for the screen as I believe film to be the ultimate medium of storytelling. I’ve spoken to some brothers about this, but a goal that I have for my own writing is to write the script for a film that wins an Oscar or is entered into the The Criterion Collection.
Stay tuned for another Member of the Week to be announced soon! This photo of Michael was taken by one of our Alumni, Michael Johnson. You can find his website here: http://www.mjohnsonphoto.co/
